A Common Sense Methodology for Article Marketing

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Article marketing can be great for beginners if they learn a few things about it, first. So, continue reading on to discover some effective article marketing methods that have already been proven to create impressive results. If you are new to this, then you need to know about article directories because that is where most people submit their articles. The reason for submitting to article directories is for article exposure and traffic generation. The most well-known directories are Ezinearticles and GoArticles, and people seem to really love using them. Manual submission is the order of the day when you are publishing to those two directories. This will allow you to target even those directories that are niche specific. Sometimes it is not possible to create an account entirely by software because no software can cover all the bases on each and every directory. Account setup is easy and only takes a few minutes, and we do not recommend you submitting your articles to a huge number of them unless you are backlinking.

We know you will submit to article directories, but keep in mind that you can expand your submissions to other useful sites. Consider, for example, that you can find blogs that are high quality blogs and accept articles by guest bloggers. Once you find guest writing sites, then you will see that they each have their own set of rules and procedures for submitting content. Let them know that you can write a guest post for them at no cost, as long as they have a link to your website at the end of it, just like a resource box. When you think about it, if you are able to guest blog on good sites then you will receive tremendous exposure. There are similarities between the two, but of course guest writing is highly specific and very targeted. For all the sites that make no mention of guest blogging or writing; just ask because the worst they can say is "no." You may be surprised at the numbers who may allow you to do it.

The main purpose of all your articles is to provide valuable content to your readers. You will see the best results when you publish many articles, but just be sure that you do not lose sight of the need for delivering good value. For example, if you target niche is "dog training", your articles should contain unique information on this topic. All people have a writing ‘voice,’ and that is what you need to inject into all you write. It is so important that each of your readers derives something positive and helpful from your articles. Focus on solid and useful information that is properly structured according to where you will be publishing and you will be fine. If you are wondering how long to make your articles, then keep in mind that your audience is online plus there are certain guidelines affecting length, as well. It is well-known that online readers are impatient and want immediate information, but length will still be influenced by your target market. As we say, how long you make your articles all depends on what you want to do with them – syndication or non-syndication. It is smart to construct your articles in a way that leaves them hanging which will encourage them to click through. Wouldn’t you want your readers to visit your website for more? Obviously you do and that’s the whole purpose of article marketing.

One thing that some marketers do with positive results is to turn articles into a PDF, and then they can just give it away or post it in directories for free. As long as your article ebook has a decent theme, it will do the trick quite well. The best thing that can happen is if your ebook really gets spread in a viral fashion. You can even promote your own product or affiliate products in this eBook so that when it gets passed around, it’ll bring you traffic and as well as an income. But of course should you also have your own affiliates then you can make this available to them, too.

You need to take action every single day. You cannot allow yourself to think in terms of immediate success, and it will take time but it is time well spent. For example, if you plan to write 5 articles every day and submit them to directories then make sure you do that.

Optimising a website for the future

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Whenever Google make a change to their algorithm, no matter how small, there will always be someone complaining because they have lost out. Some people look upon search engines changing their algorithms as being a movement of the goalposts. To a greater or lesser degree, every website is vulnerable to changes made by Google.

We would all like to know Google’s next move and amend our site accordingly, but this is simply not possible. Google changes arrive with no warning and can often have seismic effects on the search engine optimisation landscape. Everyone wants to be ahead of the game when it games to search engine optimisation.

It is important to bear in mind the spirit of Google’s advice more than any particular detail. By knowing how Google operates and what it is seeking to achieve, you can have your website well-prepared for changes even if you do not know their exact nature. Build a useful website that people will want to visit and from which they will derive value and the search engines will want to present it high up in their results.

When optimising a site, don’t just optimise for the algorithm as it is now; optimise for future algorithms as well. Short cuts are eye-catching, but website optimisation is a marathon not a sprint and those who gain traffic quickly tend to lose that traffic even more suddenly. Over the years there have been many devious practices used to generate results and all of them have been short-lived.

The most successful sites have been built with a clear view of what the search engines are trying to deliver to their users. Building a website is like building anything else – you need a strong, reliable foundation. A large site can be built on shoddy foundations, but it is likely to be undermined before too long.

Don’t neglect your product pages when optimising your site

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Search engine optimisation is about getting as much useful traffic as possible to a website as a whole, but people often make the mistake of putting all the emphasis on their home page. If you have an ecommerce site, it is not just your home page which needs to rank, all your product pages and category pages need to feature on results pages too. With potentially thousands of product pages on your site, if you can get them ranking, you can get yourself a lot of custom.

Visitors arriving at product pages following search queries are more likely to make a purchase as they are looking for something specific. If you are overlooking your product pages, you are missing out on sales. Your product pages will never get as much traffic as your home page, but there are plenty of them and taken together, they should account for the majority of the search engine traffic you receive.

Time might be spent getting the pages set up correctly in terms of titles and headings, but often this isn’t enough. For a page to have success, it needs to offer something more than all the other pages on the web where the same product is being offered for sale. Many websites have product pages which could never hope to rank in the search engines.

Google doesn’t much care how beautiful your product images are, it primarily deals in words, so it looks at the words on your page. If you use the manufacturer’s product description or no product description at all, you aren’t doing anything to stand out from the crowd. Product descriptions are a vital part of the optimisation of product pages and they are often overlooked.

Produce a few unique sentences, describing the product in question and your page will offer more than most and will also pick up a bit of long tail search traffic to boot. On-page text is so important, but is often overlooked. Product descriptions don’t need to be works of art.

Keywords and SEO

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Keywords will vary from website to website, but they are basically those search terms that you are specifically targeting in order to try and get more web traffic. For those who don’t know much about web marketing, there can be some degree of confusion surrounding keywords. It is helpful to remember that a keyword can be anything that a user might type into a search engine.

It is important to identify the right search terms when you are optimising your site. There is little point optimising your site for a term that no-one will ever put into a search engine. Keywords should be closely related to the purpose of your site otherwise you will get nothing out of the traffic you do receive.

There may be a temptation to target a particularly heavily searched term, but you are likely to find it difficult to rank for a generic phrase. There is little to be gained from trying to compete with thousands of other websites for a high traffic search term as it is highly unlikely you will ever see much success. It is important to be realistic when it comes to keywords.

Search traffic will arrive via a large number of search terms and not just the ones that you are specifically targeting. Sometimes people get hung up on search terms but it is important to remember that ranking for a particular term is a means to an end. High rankings result in traffic.

In essence, every page of your site should have its own purpose and fill a particular niche. If you have several hundred products on your site, each of those products can be considered a keyword even though there will only be small amounts of traffic to each page. Different pages on your site will rank for different search terms depending on what they are about.

SEO for e-commerce – get some product descriptions

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Search engine optimisation is a sprawling discipline these days and there are all sorts of ways of attracting web traffic. Many people think of web marketing in terms of getting high rankings for a handful of obvious keywords, but there’s more to it than that. A large proportion of the visitors arriving at an e-commerce site will land on a product page first of all.

An e-commerce site that hasn’t optimised its product pages is missing a trick and quite a valuable trick at that. Optimising a product page isn’t about getting hundreds of links pointing towards it or anything like that. Often, all that needs to be done to get more traffic to your product pages is to add some decent product descriptions.

Some websites use the manufacturer’s product description and this doesn’t help your pages stand out from the crowd. Provide unique and useful information on your product pages and you give Google a reason to present them in search results. Some websites don’t feature product descriptions of any length and these pages offer little of value over those on a competitor’s site.

A lot of time, money and effort is expended trying to get home pages to rank well, but many people overlook minor pages. The great advantage of optimising product pages is that it’s relatively easy to achieve. There is far less competition when it comes to product pages, so small changes can often provide huge rewards.

Write original product descriptions and you provide something useful for your users. Unique text on a product page also makes it seem like a more useful result to search engines and they are then more likely to feature them in their results for related searches. The more relevant text you have on a page, the more likely it is to rank for long tail search terms and this also means more visitors.

SEO for small businesses

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Very few businesses aren’t on the internet these days. No matter what you sell or what service you offer, you are sure to benefit from having some sort of website. When looking for a shop or a service, many people turn to the internet first of all and as they are likely to find what they want without going elsewhere, it is important to have a web presence.

SEO is about making the most of your website, attracting the right sort of visitors – those who will be useful to you. A lot of small business owners steer clear of SEO, thinking it is not for the likes of them, but this is incorrect. SEO is not just about dominating the rankings, appearing at the top of search results for really obvious phrases.

SEO for a small business is more about exploiting a niche and getting traffic that way. If you are a small business and you want to get to the top of the first page of search results for a popular search term, you are likely to be disappointed. Competing against major organisations and established websites demands a sizeable budget.

Many times web users are looking for local businesses when they head online and carry out a search. Small businesses often profit from area-specific searches and specifically from having a presence in Google Places. The internet is vast, but people still need local services and local shops.

Very targeted search queries are more likely to result in a sale, so ranking for these can be incredibly profitable, even if they are less popular search terms. With less competition, it becomes easier to rank for a term, so identifying something non-competitive but profitable is a great way of profiting online. A lot of small businesses have had great results through ranking for less common search phrases ignored by larger sites.

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Web masters every day are trying to get as much traffic driven to their very own web sites as possible. Some methods that they’re using to attain high levels of visitors consist of search engine-optimized internet pages, purchased links, directory submissions, and of course pay per click traffic campaigns, otherwise referred to as PPC.

But what if there was a method to develop organic link backs for a minimal cost to you, the webmaster? Relevant link backs are showing to be the new holy grail inside a time exactly where search engines are devaluing bought links and links of a general nature. But how does one acquire these relevant link backs?

Some ways to get back links to your site are Testimonials. You can easily make use of testimonials into back linking possibilities online. Whenever you buy a new product, membership, or anything else online, leave a review. Testimonials will commonly have a link to your website within them to prove the testimonial is real. This will give you a free back link if the company likes your review and uses it on their website. Social Bookmarking allows you to save your popular bookmarks online to read later and share with others. All over the Web there are “RSS Directories” which serve thegoalof letting people discover different blogs/websites on a particular subject. By submitting your RSS feed to these web directoriesyour website gets a link back to it.

Link bait is content that is so useful, high quality, or effective that people are compelled to share it naturally. If you put up content that people love so much they tweet, like, blog, and comment you can rank for a whole lotof keywords. You can have a press release written and distributed to thousands of different news sites and publications without doing any ‘real’ work. I love press releases because you get high quality back links and your business gets put in front of readers. Experiment to find out what works best for your website and keep doing more of it. You should always be testing new and creative link building methods to keep things fresh and natural for the search engines.

Two choices: you are able to either go after web sites inside your niche and ask to get a link for your website to be put on theirs, or maybe have them come to you, without requiring any type of reciprocal link. One way links are far more powerful than reciprocal links.

Obviously you would rather have webmasters come to you. Time is cash! To effectuate this, use a good write-up submission system that enables your article (which contains a bio box with your link back- very important!) to be submitted to general and particular knowledge web site article database directories. The reason being is that web owners who are searching for new content material to add to their websites visit these write-up directories and use new content submitted by individuals like yourself.

This is why it would benefit you to submit distinctive articles to write-up directories to be picked up by webmasters within your niche. When they add your write-up to their site, with bio box in tact, you gain the benefit of getting your website link on their web page. Thus, the organic link back is born!

The SEO Value Of H1 Tags

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

A webpage layout is defined by using Headers. Terms of importance on a webpage are usually the biggest and more prominent. The H1 tag stands for Header1 which, in HTML, is used in conjunction with the other header tags, H2 through H6, to determine site layout. The lower the number, the less importance to the page these tags indicate. And, of course, it breaks the page into logical portions for a human reader. Think of a magazine article. The article title is likely the most important element and is defined as H1. Then, perhaps, there is a subtitle which gets assigned a H2 tag and so on until the article body itself begins and is usually given a ‘p’ or ‘paragraph’ tag. The search engines also want to see a page with some logical breakdown of content.

So, can I use more than one H1 tag on a page? There is some controversy around this point. Many will argue multiple tags can occur, per page. Others will always suggest only one on a page at a time. They do seem to agree that abusing these tags on a page is always a bad idea. The search engines have shown that they will penalize pages and, in some cases, harshly, for doing so. For example, take a look at WordPress as a platform. They have a reputation for SEO. The default theme, Twenty Eleven, makes two H1 tags on a page by default. If that’s the default, it seems like it can’t possibly be a problem to put two. Bing, however, always suggests only one H1 tag per page.

Developers can also create H1 tags on images. Many prominent, well-ranking websites utilize these tags. Of course, Bing also suggests that all H1 tags are text only. So, it doesn’t appear as if using H1 tags as part of images is a huge problem, but should be avoided when possible. If they truly appear to be a prominent part of the page then a Header1 tag may be a sensible approach. However, typically it’s preferred to leave H1 tags to the title of a page or post, and leave images without them. This is because the same image, whether it be a logo or other image is displayed on multiple pages. SEO specialists may want to use a unique H1 tag on every page from an SEO strategy perspective, and not repeat the same phrase multiple times. This is much easier to achieve by reserving the H1 tag for text. One could, however, choose to use two H1 tags on the page, one on the logo and one for the title. However, since the logo appears at the top of the page it would be evaluated first.

Will I see SEO results from using proper H1 tags? There is evidence that they do indeed have an some impact on search engine optimization. However, it is also evident that it’s not very significant. It also means it plays some role. “Taking advantage of the tools available from an on-page perspective makes sense,” says Karen Durant from the New Jersey SEO Firm. “H1 tags play an important role on search engine evaluation.” On-page SEO is effective in an organic SEO strategy, and it clearly makes sense to take advantage of the tools available. .

So, yes, these tags are meaningful for a few reasons. For one, it’s possible to gain some SEO advantages by properly assigning these tags to the right page elements. It’s also true that abusing them is surely a way to get a website penalized by the search engines. Also, including too many is confusing for the reader and since that’s who a site is ultimately for, it should look right. Even though there appears to be no problems with using more than one, designers may wish to keep one single most-important element reserved for H1. In addition, developers can create separate keyword rich page elements, one for H1 and one for a page title. This way a website can garner as much SEO value as possible.

Even though YouTube dominates the video scene on the Internet, Facebook still leads in the number of overall views and video exposure. This is so that your viewers are able to like your page if they like the video. Although this might seem like a small feature, it actually is a huge deal. This is because Facebook videos always go viral when they are good.
